Zeekr was created in 2021 by Geely Holding as a premium electric vehicle brand, spun out of the company's Lynk & Co operations and aimed at the upper end of the battery-electric market. It began deliveries with the 001, a large shooting-brake-style electric car that combined long range with high-performance variants, and it quickly built a reputation for fast charging and generous standard equipment.
The brand expanded its range upward and outward, adding the 009 luxury MPV, the compact X crossover, and the 007 and 7X models built on the group's dedicated electric architectures. Zeekr has emphasised charging speed, using high-voltage systems that can accept very high power at compatible chargers, and it has prioritised launching in Europe and other export markets rather than remaining domestic.
Zeekr listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 2024 and has developed its vehicles alongside a broader Geely ecosystem that includes Volvo, Polestar and Lotus. In Europe it has opened retail operations in several countries, positioning itself against established premium electric rivals.
Zeekr's engineering focus has been on battery and charging technology, deploying 800-volt architectures that allow very high charging rates on compatible hardware and shorten stops on long journeys. Its Golden Battery pack is designed for high energy density and rapid replenishment.
The brand has also pushed at the edges of vehicle packaging, with the 009 aiming to bring electric powertrains to the luxury MPV class and the 001 offering shooting-brake practicality in a segment dominated by saloons and SUVs. Zeekr models typically use the group's SEA platform, developed specifically for electric vehicles.
