Ferruccio Lamborghini built his fortune manufacturing tractors from surplus military equipment after World War II. According to a well-known story, he grew frustrated with the reliability of his Ferrari road cars and decided to build his own grand tourer to compete with Enzo Ferrari.
Automobili Lamborghini was founded in 1963 in Sant Agata Bolognese. Its first car, the 350 GT, was a refined V12 grand tourer, but it was the Miura of 1966 that put Lamborghini on the map, establishing the mid-engine layout that would become the template for supercars.
The Countach, introduced in 1974, defined the angular, dramatic styling language that Lamborghini continues to evolve today.
